The Marías

As a Los Angeles native, it is a pleasure knowing that this dreamy psychedelic band is from our city. The Marías’ project started in 2016 and quickly made their way onto the indie alternative scene by simply doing their own thing. They’ve created their signature sound by fusing soul, psychedelic, synth-pop, and jazz together with the vocalist María Zardoya’s hypnotizing voice. Recently, the band has debuted their first album entitled CINEMA, which they will hopefully tour soon as the COVID-19 pandemic clears up. As of now, I had the opportunity to cover their intimate show at the Ford amphitheater in Hollywood Hills for BELatina News.

I recommend starting off your musical journey with The Marías with “All I Really Want Is You” – that’s definitely one of my favorites! The whole album CINEMA is one of Latin’s new indie gems.

Buscabulla

Buscabulla is a Puerto Rican tropical synth-pop duo formed by Luis Alfredo Del Valle and Raquel Berrios. They released their debut album Regresa in 2020, which caused buzz in the media, being tied into Puerto Rico’s social state of being. Currently, the duo is to perform at selected cities on their upcoming U.S. mini fall tour hitting Brooklyn, Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles during October and November. For more information on their upcoming tour, visit here. You’ll definitely see me at the Los Angeles show.

I recommend starting off your musical journey with Buscabulla with “Club Tú y Yo” and “Mío”. The duo has also made their mark by performing their Tiny Desk (Home) Concert at a beautiful beach in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Talk about setting a vibe!

Sotomayor

If you like the groove chosen for this week’s Radar, you’re going to absolutely enjoy this more rhythmic choice. I’m talking about Mexico City’s sibling duo Sotomayor who dropped their third album entitled Orígenes last year. The duo is known for their Afro-Latin electronic music that will have you on your feet. Throughout the album, the emerging duo keeps the energy by pushing their fusing elements in this unique project.

I recommend starting off your musical journey with Sotomayor with “Menéate pa' mi”. Lets dance!
