3 Latinx Authors That Should Be On Your Reading List

There’s no doubt that our Latinx community is rich with creative innovators from all spectrums of art – from designers, to photographers, all the way to authors. This Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15, we are diving deep into our culture to discover new hidden gems that should be spotlighted.

Today we are presenting three popular and emerging Latinx authors that should be on your reading list this end of 2021. Give yourself an unwinding reading treat this winter.

  1.   Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado

About the novel: Charlie Vega is a lot of things. Smart. Funny. Artistic. Ambitious. Fat.

Fat Chance, Charlie Vega is described as “a sensitive, funny, and painful coming-of-age story with a wry voice and tons of chisme, Fat Chance, Charlie Vega tackles our relationships to our parents, our bodies, our cultures, and ourselves.”

  1.   La Ciudad de los Paraguas Rotos (Spanish Edition) by Yamily Habib El Fakih

About the novel, by Fedosy Santaella (translated from Spanish): “La ciudad de los paraguas rotos, by Yamily Habib, is a brave novel, written in a direct and fierce style that is still profoundly human and moving. It seems to me that the reader will not find a more honest novel among contemporary Venezuelan publications. It is a debut novel, but it seems to be written as if it were going to be the last: it is hammered and chiseled -both terms seem to me complementary in this novel- with all frankness, with power, with love and fury.”

  1. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

About the novel: “After receiving a frantic letter from her newly-wed cousin begging for someone to save her from a mysterious doom, Noemí Taboada heads to High Place, a distant house in the Mexican countryside. She’s not sure what she will find—her cousin’s husband, a handsome Englishman, is a stranger, and Noemí knows little about the region.” Continue reading more about the horror book here.
